What the B2B badge means

The blue B2B badge on a Documents row means the app treated the document as a sale to a business. A document gets it when the order was placed through a Shopify company profile, or when the document carries a company name or a VAT ID. Nothing else, such as the customer’s country or the amount, plays a part.

Invoice Inn, Documents page: an invoice row for the customer Company Inc with the blue “B2B” badge next to the name.

  • Customer emails. Under Automations > Email delivery, the B2B customers option decides how business customers are emailed: No special handling treats them like everyone else, Skip B2B customers sends them no automatic email, and Wait for VAT verification, then send holds the email until the customer’s VAT ID has been checked against VIES. The default is Skip B2B customers, so a new store emails consumers only until you change it. Invoice Inn, Automations, Email delivery card: the “B2B customers” options with “Skip B2B customers” selected.
  • The Rivile ERP export, which files B2B customers as legal entities.
  • The VAT on the document. The badge is a label, not a tax decision. Whether the reverse charge applies depends on the VAT ID, the countries involved and your own VAT registration, as Collect VAT numbers and apply the reverse charge explains. A document with a company name but no VAT ID is B2B and still carries VAT.
  • The OSS export. It leaves out documents with a VAT ID, not documents with the badge, so a B2B document with only a company name stays in.

The separate green VAT badge means the VAT ID on the document was verified in VIES.

Open the document with Edit and fill in or clear Company name and VAT ID. The badge is re-evaluated when you save, and a VAT ID is verified again.
